Pick a topic and research question for your major research paper (MRP) Thursday: Practice Quiz based on The Simpsons season 16, episode 10 ("There's Something About Marrying") Friday: Application Quiz on Friday February 14th (in the identical format of the practice quiz, I will simply show you a new TV episode from a different show) February 3-7 1) Introductions and course outline. Review course intro PowerPoint. Homework: Get your student information sheet signed by your parents. Return to me on Tuesday. 2) Historical example of social change: the 1950's-1960's (PowerPoint). Review PowerPoint and identify why social change happened. Apply to your own world (what has changed since 1996?). 3) Form a group of 3. Identify as many changes as possible in your lifetime/in the immediate future. Share top 5 with the class. Discuss why these changes happen(ed) 4) PowerPoint (and video above): Intro to the Social Sciences. Then, with your group from yesterday, choose ONE topic/change from the list of social changes generated yesterday. As a group, formulate a list of 2-3 questions per area of social science based on that topic (6-9 questions total). 5) Intro "It's Theory, Deary!" assignment.
